Kicking Goals in the Community

Therry Penola Old Boy’s Football Club was established in 1978 and is proud to be celebrating its 30th year of competition in the long-established Victorian Amateur Football Association.

The club prides itself on fostering family football within the local community, says Rod Moran, Secretary of Therry Penola Football Club.

"It’s footy that brings us all together, but the club offers much more than that as well. We work hard to create a family-friendly atmosphere and social environment where players, friends and families can get together as a community. There’s no alcohol at our games which helps create a safe and positive environment for kids to run around and have fun. "

While many of their players could receive money in the surrounding semi-professional leagues, the club is committed to the spirit of the amateur code. Therefore one of the biggest challenges is to attract and retain quality players by developing non-monetary benefits of the club for players, their families and friends.

"As a non-profit organisation we continually seek support from like-minded sponsors within our community who understand that the funds they provide will be used to grow the club and support the community as a whole… not siphoned into short-term and high-priced recruits.

For some four years, TRT has been one of our biggest sponsors. The support they provide helps fund crucial running costs like insurance, medical staff and training equipment. More than money, TRT has also been very generous with help and advice on IT related matters."

Therry Penola Old Boy’s Football Club aims to be a highly successful and proud community football club that provides quality leadership, coaching and social programs with all teams competing in the top grade for their level. TRT is proud to be able to play a small part in helping them get there.
