TRT Staff, Clients and guests prepare a 5 star, 3 course meal at the Academy Sofitel, Melbourne.
On a typically cold September night, in the shadows of the AFL Grand Final, TRT staff, clients and guests undertook their own personal challenge to unleash the MasterChef within and together prepared (and consumed) a 5 star 3 course meal.
TRT Staff, clients, partners and even one child came together to see what it takes to prepare a top quality 3 course meal at the Academy Sofitel in the heart of Melbourne.
The group was broken into 3 teams with each team assigned to the preparation, plating and serving of one of the 3 courses (entrée, main & dessert).
The Academy Sofitel is the only hospitality training academy to operate within a 5-star hotel in Victoria, and therefore offers students the significant advantage of undertaking practical and theoretical study within an operating hotel environment.
The meals were prepared in the purpose built training kitchen of the Academy Sofitel and the teams were guided and instructed by industry based trainers. The entrée team prepared a prawn based seafood dish, the mains team prepared a fillet of steak and the dessert team prepared a widely anticipated chocolate pudding.
For each meal the teams were required to perform all tasks involved in preparation of the meals including, cleaning, chopping, grating, slicing, dicing and juicing. The teams under the supervision of the head chef then cooked the meals and finally plated them for serving. It was like a live version of MasterChef with the added advantage of eating the meal at the end.

Overall the night was a success and the staff, clients and partners who attended had a great time. For many it was a real "eye opener" in understanding what is involved in preparing a restaurant quality meal.
For the record, the Entrée Team won "Best plating" and the dessert team won "Best Tasting".
