The Challenge:

“We needed to upgrade fast with no fuss”

As part of a longer-term enterprise-wide technology upgrade, LeasePlan required the configuration and installation of a new IBM pSeries 595 midrange IT system.

While LeasePlan has its own in-house technology teams, they wanted to bring in some additional expertise on the new system as they had previously been running an IBM iSeries. With a range of other related IT projects on the go, they also wanted to free up internal resources.

Having heard of TRT’s reputation for midrange specialisation, LeasePlan’s IT Services Manager, Adrian La’Brooy selected TRT to help him and his team quality access the proposed design and implement the p595 solution.

The Solution

“Easily the best value solution as a package”

TRT first took the time to understand the business issues and then recommended the most effective technical approach before implementing the solution.

“As a Technical Manager I have found over the years that it is common for the promises and solutions proposed in the sales process to disconnect with the actual implementation.

But with TRT the technical team involved in the setup and specifications stage were the same people implementing the project...they talked the talk then walked the walk, so there were no gaps or misunderstandings,” said La’Brooy.

He was also impressed with the level of consultation in the design stage and the ownership TRT took with the implementation.

“TRT contributed significantly to the design solution along with our team. We knew exactly what results and specifications we needed and TRT added a lot of value in developing the smartest ways to achieve them.”

In addition to installing the p595, LeasePlan needed extra services including building the operating systems and setting up the storage and backup systems to protect business critical data.

TRT also configured the existing p570, as well as the new system to backup to a centralized server using Tivoli Storage Manager and partitioned them to run a range of different components.

“By delivering this upgrade on schedule we have maintained momentum as we continue to carry out upgrades across the business. It was great to be able to rely on TRT to deliver as promised, which they also did on budget,” La’Brooy concluded.
